The Big Donation

British Land retail sites supported the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Big Donation appeal.

During September and October, visitors to our retail parks and shopping centres donated 9,200 bags of unwanted, good quality items, equivalent to £184,000, as well as over £4,000 in cash contributions.

Under the slogan 'Join the Nation for the Big Donation', the campaign is the UK's biggest appeal of its type, aiming to collect 400,000 bags of items to stock the shelves of BHF stores across the country.

More than 30 British Land sites set up promotional stands and collection points for customers to drop off clothing, shoes, handbags, accessories, books, CDs, toys and bric-a-bac. Shoppers responded with generosity.

Regional Centre Manager at Fort Kinnaird Shopping Park in Edinburgh, Liam Smith, set up our partnership with the Big Donation project, following a successful campaign last year.

Liam explain: "I was really impressed by the way the appeal was managed by the BHF. I was also amazed by the generosity of staff and shoppers at the Park, who contributed about £6,000 worth of donations and products."

Liam then met with the Foundation's Regional Manager and agreed the Park would install permanent collection points. He also asked whether the BHF would be interested in something on a bigger scale.

He added: "We decided to try and get more British Land sites to participate, and so we approached the other property teams - and the rest is history!"
